Eloping at Lago di Braies: What You Need to Know for 2026

I spend so much of my time at this lake, it’s to the point where I’m considering moving closer. It’s gorgeous, you have an opportunity to rent a private location, and the bookings are always at sunrise. What’s not to love? As one of my previous couples who often watches my Instagram stories once said, “Yep. Looks like Shawna’s at Braies again.”

But as anyone who has scrolled through Instagram knows, “quiet” at Lago di Braies doesn’t just happen by accident. It takes planning, timing, and, most importantly, up-to-date information.

The Ever-Changing Boathouse: A Timeline

If you’re planning a session here, you need to know that the rules (and the prices) move fast. I’ve been shooting here since 2022, and I’ve watched the logistics shift every single season. Here is how the private boathouse rental has evolved:

YearPriceThe Fine Print
2022€400You could split the booking between two parties (€200 each).
2024€450Price increase, but still a steal for that level of access.
2025€450The price stayed the same, but they removed the option to split bookings.
2026€600The current rate. In June and early July, they now offer two sunrise slots instead of just one.

Pro Tip: While the price has climbed, the investment is 100% worth it if you’re wanting Braies as a part of your photo shoot. It is the only way to ensure you have the iconic wooden dock and the fleet of rowboats all to yourself before the public gate opens.

What’s Actually Inside the Boathouse?

Many couples are surprised to find that the boathouse is more than just a photo backdrop. It’s actually a functional space! Inside, you’ll find:

  • A Heater: Essential for those crisp Alpine mornings (even in July!).
  • A Mirror & Prep Area: There is a small space where a bride can do final touch-ups or a quick outfit change.
  • Gifts for you: From the boathouse. Magnets, postcards, and jams!
  • A Lago di Braies Stamp: You can stamp your passport, your vows, your forehead, whatever feels right.

My Advice: Come 90% ready. Your rental time is limited and goes by incredibly fast once the light hits the peaks. Use the boathouse for final hair tweaks or putting on your shoes, but don’t spend your golden hour blending foundation!

The Magic (and Reality) of Eloping at the Lake

If you’re considering exchanging your vows here, remember that the mountains don’t always play by the rules—and that’s actually part of the magic. Many couples worry about a less-than-perfect forecast, but I’ve found that a bit of mist or rain only adds to the cinematic, moody soul of the Dolomites. To keep you dry and looking sharp, I always provide my clients with clear umbrellas; they let the light in and look incredible in photos.

However, the one thing you should never underestimate is the morning chill. Even in the height of summer, sunrise at this altitude is bracing. I highly recommend leaning into the “Alpine chic” look: think wedding capes, cozy throws, or even elegant wedding gloves. And when it comes to footwear, don’t feel pressured to wear stilettos. Many brides feel nervous walking on the wooden dock because of the gaps between the planks and the slight sway of the boards. Choosing a pair of cute hiking-style boots is a total vibe—they keep your feet warm, offer much-needed stability on the dock, and look perfectly at home in this rugged landscape.

The Logistics: Parking & Staying Over

The “hidden costs” of Lago di Braies are the ones that catch people off guard.

Parking: Parking prices fluctuate significantly between the shoulder season and the peak summer months. Just like the boathouse, these prices have trended upward every year I’ve been shooting. Be prepared to pay a premium for the convenience of the “P4” lot closest to the water.

Where to Stay:

You’ll see the hotel right on the lake and think, “Perfect! We’ll stay there.” I actually don’t recommend it. They often require a long minimum stay that doesn’t align with most elopement or engagement itineraries.

Instead, I provide my couples with a 100-page Elopement Guide filled with hand-picked hotel recommendations in the surrounding valley. These spots offer better value, incredible spa facilities, and more flexibility. If none of those fit your vibe, I’m always happy to go off-list to find the perfect chalet for you.

Why Experience Matters

Eloping at Braies can definitely go wrong. If you don’t know when to be there, where to go, and how to find privacy, you will end us saying your vows to an audience. In a place as popular as the Dolomites, you don’t just need a photographer; you need a scout who has seen the seasons change and the prices rise, and who knows how to navigate it all so you can just focus on each other.
