If you’re wanting to marry in summer and prefer crisp sea air over intense heat, eloping in the Faroe Islands is absolutely where you want to be (Iceland and Greenland are some easy runner-ups). You get endless daylight hours to explore, lush green fjords, and the chance to see adorable puffins nesting along the coastal cliffs.

Part 1: Historic Tórshavn & the Sea Cliffs of Trælanípa

We kicked off their multi-day adventure by exploring the charming, turf-roofed streets of the capital city, Tórshavn. From there, we hiked out to the famous lake above the ocean at Trælanípa, where sheer cliff drops meet crashing Atlantic waves.

If you stay in the capital city of Tórshavn or somewhere central, almost every major trailhead and viewpoint is within a 1.5-hour drive or less.

Essential Tips for Planning Your Faroe Islands Elopement

• Book More Than a Few Days: I always recommend spending at least 5 days on the islands, though 6 to 7 days is ideal if you want to explore the main sights without rushing.
• Build in Weather Backup Days: The weather can bring sideways rain and thick fog at a moment’s notice. Pick one main target day for your vows, but keep 2 backup dates open so you can adjust your plans dynamically.
• Book Ferries and Excursions Early: Popular ferry routes (like the boat to Kalsoy or Mykines) sell out quickly. Secure your tickets at least a month in advance, but always have a relaxed Plan B in case wind cancels a sailing.
• Prepare for Toll Tunnels: The islands are connected by impressive subsea tunnels. Most car rental companies automatically register your license plate and bill your card for the tunnel fees at the end of your trip. The tolls aren’t cheap!

Next, we headed to the iconic village of Gásadalur to see Múlafossur waterfall tumbling straight off a cliff into the sea below. We followed up that coastal awe with a scenic trek up Mount Klakkur near Klaksvík, taking in sweeping panoramic views of the surrounding fjords as the evening light settled in.

Afterwards, we stopped at Fossá, the tallest two-tiered waterfall in the Faroe Islands, and enjoyed a few final quiet moments watching Atlantic puffins soar along the rugged coastline.
