The original plan was to fly toward Cadini di Misurina, one of the Dolomites’ most iconic peaks. But as we lifted off with Elikos Helicopters, it became clear that Cadini was hidden beneath thick, wet clouds.
So, in true adventure elopement spirit, we adjusted mid-flight. Our pilot suggested a clearer pocket over the Marmarole range, a lesser-known area tucked behind Misurina’s dramatic ridges. Having hiked there once before, I knew it would be a winner. Within minutes, we were circling untouched peaks and landing on a private plateau.
It turned out to be perfect. Rebecca and Saeed read their vows in complete silence except for the wind, and with some imagination, distant rainfall.
Sometimes, the mountains make the plan.

The day of our elopement I was initially nervous because it seemed very cloudy but the team went above and beyond to make sure we had the best day/lighting possible.
Helicopter elopements in the Dolomites combine logistical precision with a wild sense of freedom. You can read my full guide to Planning a Helicopter Elopement, but here are the basics:
Pick a Reputable Local Operator. I normally fly with Elikos Helicopters, who offer private charters for photo sessions and elopements throughout the Dolomites. They’re experienced in working with photographers and can advise on landing zones and weather safety. Get your photographer to work with the company on the best timing. And don't forget; the Dolomites’ weather can shift quickly. Ask your photographer and heli company if they are flexible with timing.
Unlike the popular spots like Seceda and Cadini di Misurina, Marmarole remains remote and quiet, and often called “the wild Dolomites.” Few trails lead directly here, which makes helicopter access ideal for couples who want a secluded summit without a strenuous multi-hour hike. The likelihood of seeing someone up here at sunrise or sunset is highly unlikely.
Do we need a planner for a helicopter elopement?
If you're just planning on doing the helicopter, definitely not. I help couples coordinate timing, route options, and logistics with the pilot. But if you prefer a planner to handle other vendor bookings, I can recommend trusted partners.
Can we legally land anywhere?
No, helicopter companies will give you a list of places they are able to land.
How far in advance should we book the helicopter?
At least 2–3 months ahead for summer dates, or longer for sunrise slots, but they sometimes can have last-minute availability.
What if the weather turns bad?
Your pilot will recommend an alternate route, just like Rebecca & Saeed’s flight to Marmarole, or give you the flexibility to rebook the date. Flexibility is part of the adventure.
